We view children as unique individuals with a diverse set of needs, who can reach their full potential in a safe and nurturing environment. Self-esteem building and enthusiastic hands-on learning encourages risk taking and the development of critical thinking skills. We build on each child’s strengths and recognize the need to step back, observe, and reflect on children’s learning, to facilitate social emotional development. We believe that having a strong set of social skills has a direct influence on academic performance, behaviors in diverse situations, social and family relationships, and successful functioning in life. Home-school communication, collaboration with related service providers, and continued professional development are essential. An ongoing love of young children, marveling in their growth and learning from them, contributes to our enthusiasm as educators.

I have worked with Katharine in my capacity as a Psychologist and CPSE Chairperson and have been impressed by her professionalism, knowledge and genuine concern for the children she has worked with. She has an excellent understanding of the educational and social needs of children, and the ability to express her ideas cogently and literally.Toby Glick, Psychologist and founder/ president of ParentConfidante Special Needs Consulting, NYC
I recently attended a social skills workshop with Katharine and Carmella, and found it to be incredibly helpful. Both women were professional in their understanding of child development, but also showed themselves to be empathic and supportive of the adults in these children’s lives. The workshop offered concrete techniques, books and activities that would help encourage a young child’s self confidence and their ability to more successfully interact with peers. I would highly recommend it.Dana, Dana's Kids, NYC
Carmella & Katharine always had a structured approach to specific topics the children needed to cover, they provided excellent in-class examples of social situations and role-playing, and most importantly, we were kept well informed with written and verbal summaries. They are impressive, not just in their professionalism and dedication, but also in the degree to which they truly care about the kids. We’re grateful to them for their help and are happy to recommend them.Parent, Pelham, NY

The children working with Carmella learn and grow and surpass our expectations. I continuously recommend Carmella to parents of children with special needs and I am always thanked profusely once they begin working with her. She is truly special!Sabrina Landau ECC Director, Westchester Jewish Center in Mamaroneck Head Counselor, Camp Topeinu, NYC
In one short year, Katharine single-handedly taught our son skills that triggered an enormous growth in his cognitive and motor abilities, as well as his self esteem. In the same short year, she taught us how to encourage and work with him. Most important, she gave all of us an enormous infusion of hope –- quite realistic hope – for our son’s future.Pam & Steven, Pelham, NY
Carmella Crowley is capable of moving mountains. You think there’s no hope and then there is an abundance of it. She is that perfect combination of professionalism, warmth, out-of-the-box thinking that supports children, parents and school staff. She never gives up on a child, always coming up with new ideas to reach a special needs child. She motivates school staff to implement educational plans and she leads the therapy team with gentle guidance and a ‘can do’ attitude.Lori Kass, Mamaroneck, NY.
Confident Kid Club exceeded our expectations. Our 7 year old was hesitant to join the group, but at the end of the first session, he couldn’t wait to go back again. Learning how to interact with his peers in a safe setting transferred to “real life” situations outside the group. School personnel noticed a positive change in his social skills, which lead to more social interactions for him at recess and lunch. He even established some new friendships at school.Meredith Ohmes, Pelham, NY
I have seen amazing things happen with my child during his time with Carmella and I am incredibly grateful to have her guiding me down this uncertain road of raising a special needs child.Lori Kass, Mamaroneck, NY
I ran an an early childhood conference where Katharine and Carmella presented a workshop on “Incorporating Social Skills Into the Early Childhood Classroom”. They were professional, a pleasure to work with and received rave reviews from teachers who took part in their workshop. Their presentation was lively, practical, with hands-on ideas teachers could take back and incorporate into their curriculum. I would recommend them highly excellent, useful and engaging presentation.Jackie Binstock Coordinator, Fall 2012 JECA Conference
